A venue with a difference
The Powerhouse Discovery Centre, located in Sydney greater west at Castle Hill, is the newly-opened, publicly accessible, storage and collection care facility of the award-winning Powerhouse Museum. The Discovery Centre offers unique spaces for hire in its industrial feel centrepiece the Display Store. The Display Store is a museum housing over 3,000 objects from the Powerhouse Collection not normally accessible to the public.
Powerhouse Discovery Centre venues include the Display Store foyer and adjoining exhibition areas of the Display Store suitable for cocktails, dinners and product launches. The Resource Room for private meetings, presentations or training workshops, and the outdoor Lawn for family days, cocktail or dinner functions.
The Discovery Centre is a one-of-a-kind special events venue. A cocktail function or dinner in the foyer of the Display Store sees guests surrounded by large-scale transport objects such as a double-decker bus, a Corby Starlet stunt plane suspended upside down from the Gallery ceiling, and one of the original 1940s Harry’s Café de Wheels pie vans – a truly Sydney icon. Guests may also enjoy the opportunity to step back in time and explore the thousands of diverse collection objects presented in drawers units located on the upper level of the Display Store.
The landscaped lawn area and children’s climbing frame located adjacent to the Display Store provide the perfect venue for a family day style event or enquire about us erecting a marquee on the lawn for your outdoor cocktail or dinner function at the Discovery Centre.

Display Store
The entrance foyer to the Display Store, the centrepiece of the Powerhouse Discovery Centre site provides a unique and memorable setting for your event. You may choose to combine a viewing of the objects on show in the Display Store’s Upper and Lower level. The Display Store foyer is the ideal location for a dinner for up to 70 guests or a cocktail party for up to 150 guests.
Resource Room
The Discovery Centre Resource Room is the perfect venue for a private meeting, presentation, workshop or small conference. The Resource Room is fitted out with 8 computer work stations which can be utilised for training purposes. The Resource Room can accommodate up to 50 guests theatre style or 25 Boardroom style.
Discovery Centre Lawn
Located adjacent to the Display Store is a landscaped outdoor lawn area with a backdrop of native landscaping and a soaring stand of Blue Gums retained from the original eucaylpt plantation that graced the Discovery Centre site in the 1940s-1960s. A state-of-the-art KOMPAN children’s climbing frame and a working Comet agricultural windmill are located adjacent to the Discovery Centre Lawn. Accommodating 400 for cocktails and 200 for dinner a marquee can be erected for outdoor cocktail or dinner functions.
